I am simply reposting the solution I found on
http://help.wugnet.com/office/errors-opening-excel-ftopict1059316.html#

But it wasn't that easy to find... I missed it the first time. And a
few newsgroup topics on this subject didn't have the answer.

I had this same problem and none of the suggestions I could find
resolved it.

My cause: I used the "files and settings transfer wizard" to copy my
settings from one laptop to another. Both Windows XP SP2, Office 2003
SP3, etc. But I had installed some of the Excel add-ons on the
original laptop that it seemed the new one did not understand when the
settings were copied.

If you read the error messages in sequence, the files that are
"missing" are really just pieces of one long filename and path --
breaking into a new error with every space. For me, it was C:\program
files\microsoft office\office11\library\analysis\atpvbaen(1).xla. When
the wizard copied the files, it didn't overwrite the existing file,
but created a second copy with the (1) at the end. This (1) file was
set in the registry to open when Excel opened.

To resolve it, I fixed the filenames and edited the OPEN1 and OPEN2
registry keys (HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Office ->
11.0 -> Excel -> Options) to remove the (1) and add " " around the
entire path.

I may not have needed to, but I then unregistered and registered
Excel. The error messages no longer appear.
