Every time I create a new folder when I open it- as default it will
display as 'Thumbnails' is there a way I can set as default for all
folders the 'Details' view ? It is a small thing but it bugs the hell
out of me............

You can open its properties, click the Customize tab and change its
foldertype. But even that is done after the folder is created, not
during its inception..

You can apply Details View to existing and newly created folders. Open My
Documents or Windows Explorer and customize it the way you want all other
folders to look.
When done, on Menu Bar, click on Tools, Folder Options, View, Apply to all
folders.

Create a new folder and set it to 'Details'. Then click Tool, Folder
Options, Click the View Tab, and click Apply To All Folders button. This
will set all current folders to 'Details' view and should set all new folders
in the future with this view.

Thanks,
Ryan
