file tips in Windows Explorer

The file tips balloon in Windows Explorer displays type,
author, date modified, and size when I hover the mouse
pointer over a file on my own computer. But when I hover
the mouse pointer over a file on another computer on my
network, the file tips balloon in Windows Explorer only
shows type and size. This has been the case only
recently. Windows Explorer file balloon tips used to show
the same information for all files on all computers on my
network. How can I get the file tips balloon in Windows
Explorer to once again show the same information for
files on other computers as is shown for files on my
computer?

Larry,
I have a similar problem, which I reported here about a month ago. Here is
the copy:

"Hi guys,

Does anybody know which settings or registry entries control the depth of
information displayed in the file tags selected by the "Show pop-up
description for folder and desktop items" on the "View" tab of the "Folder
options"? My PC at work has Win XP Pro and it does show Comments field from
the file properties in the tag, but both of my Win XP HE machines at home
don't show this field at all, just Type, Author, Title, Subject, Date
Modified, Size. The file is exactly the same on all 3 PCs and the Comments
field is ticked in Properties as required. I am pretty sure that my HE
machines were showing Comments before I installed SP1 and subsequent
updates. The Win XP Pro PC has SP1 installed but recent updates are not
installed yet, as our system administrator is on leave.

I can force Comments to be displayed by switching to "Details" view and
ticking the Comments box in the "Choose Details" in the "View" menu,
however, it doesn't make any difference to the information displayed in the
file tag, when you hover over the file name.

Thanks in advance for any ideas and solutions.

Unfortunately, nobody replied and I haven't found a solution so far, but
I'll let you know as soon as I sort it out.

It has to be a registry entry. I have no idea which one.
It seems like my information lessened for my wife's
computer on my home network after a critical update
install. I remember that I restored my computer to an
earlier date and got the available information back to
the previous level. But with the SP2 install the
information was gone again, and possibly even before that.
