File Sharing Network Problem

We have added a couple of new machine to our small company network running
Windows XP home addition. While our Windows 2000 machines seem to be able
to see each other, we have problems with the XP machines being seen and
seeing each other. We have tried turning the firewall off, checked that
file sharing is enabled, etc. with no luck. Even trying to ping either of
the XP machines fails. But the XP machines can ping 2000 machines, but not
each other.

What are we missing?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Right off the bat, that indicates the firewall on the XP machines is still
on.

Go to Administrative Tools. Right-click on Windows Firewall/Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS) and select Properties. Click on Stop. Then change
the Startup type to Disabled.

Check to see if you can now ping the XP systems from the 2K machines. If you
can, ping the XP machines by computer name. If that works, you should be
good as far as networking is concerned.

You will most likely have to create duplicate username/password combinations
on the XP systems that already exist on the 2K systems. After that, you
should be good to go.
