Password to access local network?

N

NetNews

I am establishing a workgroup involving two machines running XP-Pro. I did
install NetBuei in both computers, and My Documents is Shared with Simple
Network File Sharing turned off. I am administrator on both machines
however no password is set in either-the machines just log right in to
windows.

Even though each computer I can't access files, getting an Access Denied
message.

Do I need to set a password for each machine?

Yes, or you need to modify the Registry. Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Lsa

Look in the right pane for "limitblankpassworduse". By default, this value is set to 1. Double click it and change it to 0 (zero). This will allow blank passwords for things other than logon. However, this creates a huge security hole, as anyone who can get your username and gain access to your system, locally or remotely will be able to do anything you can do.

Hey! I assigned a password to each computer and that did it ( after
disabling Norton Internet Security)... Thank you very much.
