File Sharing and access rights in a Peer to Peer WinXP/98 Environment

Hi All,

Our office used to have a mix of Win98 and Win 95 PC in a Peer to Peer
environment. We used a Win98 PC to share an MS Access database and used
passwords to grant the other PC's either full access or read only access
depening on the Password.

We have since introduced some WinXP Pro PC's.

We want the XP Pro PC to house the MS Access database and allow users to
access the database in the same fashion as before (Read only or full access
depending on password).

Can I still do this with XP?

The file system with the Access database is NTFS. The best I can come up
with is granting everyone full access or everyone read only.

Please help.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appeciated.

You can have XP Pro allow different modes of access based on the user
name and password of the person who requests access. Disable "simple
file sharing and set up access control lists, as shown here:
