I'm having trouble with the basic file shares and thus all file shares on my
laptop. It seems that my file shares - even the Shared Documents folder - do
not retain their shares. I've tried with 'simple file sharing' both enabled
and disabled and have the same results. I share a folder (and the icon
changes like it has shared and I can quickly see it from my desktop) and then
maybe 10 seconds later the share is gone - both from the desktop and on the
laptop. If I check shares in Computer management/Shared Folders/Shares it
does not show them but briefly. BTW, I can see shared printers.
How did I get to this state? Not sure... I think this has been happening
for awhile as I sync my desktop and laptop and from time to time have to
reset things for sharing (although never had to re-share a folder) I'm
running TuneUp Ultilities and it suggested I had unsafe shares with unlimited
access and did I want to clean those up. I said yes and since then have not
been able to share anything on the laptop. I tried backout out the chages in
TuneUp Utilities but it has made no difference.
I'm running XP Pro with SP3. I've checked everything I can think of to
compare my desktop (where sharing works fine) with my laptop. Thoughts on
where to start in tracking this down?
