File search across network

I have two office networks I manage and I am having trouble with one of them
(remote office) in the ability to search for files on a server in the main
office. The remote office is connected to the main office via a SonicWall VPN
appliance. Personnel in the remote office need to do file searches on the
main office server but come up with no results on files verified to be there.
No error messages reported.

The medium for the search is Windows Explorer on Windows XP SP2. Server OS
is Windows server 2003.

Anyone have any thoughts/experience on this issue?

Thanks loads,

Jim

Where to start...

SonicWall VPN appliance on both end... assuming the VPNs are correctly
configured, aren't we?

Can they ping the server IP address? other workstations?

The biggest mistake of the VPN is having the remote DNS NOT pointing
to the main server... on the remote site, you should configure the DNS
to point to the main site thru the tunnel, otherwise, the remote
clients are searching the internet for the documents instead of the
VPN tunnel....
