file reverts back to unmatched constantly

I have one particular .jpg file on my remote site that constantly reverts to
unmatched although it is identical to the same file on the local site.
Why does this happen? Remote site is a web host with FP extensions; local
site is my hard drive. I have a zillion other .jpg files in the same folders
that are just fine.
Thanks,
Dave

By any chance does one have upper case letters in the name
and the other one doesn't??

Nope,
In fact, one of them is a copy of the other, published when I first
published the web and it has been published several times since then. I will
go do something else and then come back and find them unmatched again,
although it is a file I never use (a backup of a gif).

A .jpg (from original post) that is a backup of a .gif??

Delete it on both your local and remote, then make a new copy of it (from the original) and don't rename the extension

Oops, sorry.
No, they are both .jpg. I will take your advice and do the delete and
replace. It wasn't a very important file anyway. I just didn't understand
why it, alone, does this, when the other ,jpg files don't.
Thanks,
Dave
