File is too large to save on DVD

I created a 30 minute slideshow with music using WMM. I saved it in DV-AVI
format because I would like to play it on a DVD player. The size is over 5G
and my DVD only allows 4.7 GB. How should I save it or is there a way to make
the file size smaller? I tried the best fit option but I wasn't sure which
file size to choose. Any help would be appreciated.

it's the right size.... you don't copy the DV-AVI file to the disc. You need
to used DVD making software which will make an MPEG-2 file out of it,
compressing it as needed to fit on the disc. Your goal is a video DVD, not a
data DVD.

I have joined 4 parts of TV-films which I have saved on a harddisk of a
Sat-receiver and transportated to my PC by an USB-cable.

A special programm of the TECHNISAT-RECEIVER (Mediaport) makes
MPG- or VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS streams.

I habe merged the 4 single_mpgs to an *_all.mpg. (4,89 GB)

Is it possible to burn a DVD (4,7 GB)?

As Papa John stated, it isn't the physical size of the file that matters in
fitting a video on a DVD it is the running length of the video in minutes.
A standard 4.7 GB DVD will hold 1 hour of video uncompressed at it's highest
resolution. The DVD burning program will let you know if the entire video
can be burned onto one DVD or if you will need to have the program compress
the video (less quality but more time.) Burning a DVD is not a part of (or
at least a good part of) any of the versions of WMM.
