"File in use by...." error

I have Windows 2000 and Office 97. I am the only user of
the PC.
Each time I open a file from My Documents I get the
response "(Filename)is being used by Phil Keena. Do you
want to make a copy?" with the options "OK" or "Cancel". I
have just been selecting Cancel but now it is starting to
annoy me and I can't fine a way to get rid of the error. A
similar error appears when Excel is opened but it says "A
document with the name (Filename).xls is already open. You
cannot open two documents with the same name, even if the
documents are in different folders." I can't find anything
on Knowledge Base and speaking to MS in Sydney resulted in
a lack of assistance due to nearly everyone being involved
with MSBlast. So Brains Trusts - any ideas?? Please!!!

Try unplugging your network cable and open the file again.

What is this file's attribute, "attrib /?".
