I keep getting messages in Outlook Express when I have received an attachment
file (pdf) that it has no associated program i.e adobe. I have to save the
file on my desk top and then the extension is recognized. How can I fix
this? I am sure that this used to work before.

Try posting this in an Outlook Express news group - this is not one of them.
Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office and is what this group supports.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and has its own news groups.
