Is there a way to change a whole contact list at one time to-
file as "company then contact name"
I do not know why but my contact list keeps reverting to " file as: First
then last name " and I need it to file by company first. I have manually
changed each one to file as: company then name several times It would helpIf
there was a way to change them all at one time. I have gone into options and
set it for a company first preference but tis does not make any changes.

You would have to run code to do that and we don't even know your Outlook
version.

I get an error Message
unterminated string constant line no 8

I checked back to line 8 and it looks like it is typed right to me (Itried
to cut and paste the code but it strings out in one solid line. I tried to
keep spacing exactly as seen. Is it necessary to keep the spacing? Can I just
cut and paste?

Thanks for your help, I did cut and past
I saved to word (which kept the spacing) and then cut and pasted and it
worked.

I have a new computer with outlook 2003 and windows xp... Do I need new
directions to " file as" company, last, first" in my contacts

R

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]

Yes. You'll need to reset those preferences. The settings will apply only to
new Contacts, not existing ones.

J

JTKiser1022

Can you point me in the direction of code for the 2007 version...and would
that code fix the following problem?

When I copy my contacts from one folder to another they seem to display fine
according to my settings (Last name, First name) however the moment I leave
that folder and return to it, the contacts are all displaying as First name
Last name...I am working with around 400+ contacts so far and increasing. I
cannot possibly change them one-by-one and apparently, even if I did, they'd
most likely revert to whatever Outlook thinks is best. VERY ANNOYING!

Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated!

You would have to run code to do that and we don't even know
your
Outlook
version.

Is there a way to change a whole contact list at one time
to-
file as "company then contact name"
I do not know why but my contact list keeps reverting to "
file
as:
First
then last name " and I need it to file by company first. I
have
manually
changed each one to file as: company then name several
times
It
would
helpIf
there was a way to change them all at one time. I have gone
into
options
and
set it for a company first preference but tis does not make
any
changes.

I assume you meant Tools > Options > Preferences > Contact Options > File
As...?
The Title is the same as the File As... , so I don't understand what you
mean by "both." They're the same.
The Card uses Full Name. Does that change as well?
I simply can't reproduce this behavior. By what method are you transferring
these Contacts?

State how you set it to Last, First.
State where it changes: Title Bar? Card? Both?

but as soon as i come back to it they are changed to first name last

What preference did you set for the File As... field in the recipient
folder? The File As... field is a derived field, not a static one.

The field seems to change on it's own after I move to another folder
and
back
again...it copies correctly and then when i move back to it a second
later
it
has reverted to first name last name...

What's the Display As field? There is no such field in Outlook.
What field is changing and when? How are you "copying" these
Contacts?

Business Card View and Display As field...

Sorry 'bout that...

Code hasn't changed.
Question is unclear. To what view are you referring and what
field?

Can you point me in the direction of code for the 2007
version...and
would
that code fix the following problem?

When I copy my contacts from one folder to another they seem
to
display
fine
according to my settings (Last name, First name) however the
moment
I
leave
that folder and return to it, the contacts are all displaying
as
First
name
Last name...I am working with around 400+ contacts so far and
increasing.
I
cannot possibly change them one-by-one and apparently, even if
I
did,
they'd
most likely revert to whatever Outlook thinks is best. VERY
ANNOYING!

Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated!
