Deleting Multiple contact information from Company category

S

Soapy

I normally put the names of my contacts into the NAME, COMPANY, and FILE AS
categories.

For instance, John Doe would be listed as:
Name: John Doe
Company: John Doe
File As: John Doe

Blackberry has just updated their software to version 4.5. It has changed
the way that Outlook (Vista and Office 2007) synchs to my Contact list on the
Blackberry. Instead of showing one line with the name of the contact such as
John Doe, it also shows the Company Name, hence, showing two lines for each
contact.

Now on my Blackberry I see:
John Doe
John Doe
Mary Doe
Mary Doe
Paul Doe
Paul Doe
etc.

I spoke with RIM tech support and they said that this IS the new format;
they show the Contact name AND the Company name.

I have over 800 contacts.

What is an easy, simple, fast way to delete the COMPANY info from my Outlook
contact list? I deleted the COMPANY column from Outlook, but that did not
affect the Blackberry listing.

Thanks!

Switch to the By Company view. Then drag all of the contacts to the first
group (for no company).

Hi:
I'm not sure what you mean by the "first group."

I changed to the "Company View."

The column to the left of my Company Column is Full Name.

Do you mean drag each individual contact company name into the Full Name
column?

Sorry, but I need a little more specific detail. I have read your answer a
couple of times but it is not making sense to me.
Thanks.

If the view is grouped by company, Outlook displays an extra row for each
company. You could right click on such a group header and choose "Collapse
all". Do you see what I mean? If there's no contact without a company name,
you need to edit one contact: Open it, delete the company, save and close
the item. Now there must be a group called 'None' at the top, to which you
can drag other contacts (rows, not columns).

Hi:
I can view the group by Company. I can Collapse or Expand All.

I don't understand the rest of your instructions.

I deleted a company and saved the record, but all the other records still
had a company listed.

There is no group called "None" anywhere

I am finding this a little confusing.

Hi:

All I want to do is delete data from the COMPANY category for multiple
Contacts.

Open one contact and empty the compay field. Save the item. Now, there must
be a group called

'Company: (None) (x Items)'

in the contact folder as you have a lot of contacts with a company and at
least one contact without a company. Depending on the sort order you'll find
that group at the top or the bottom of your contacts. Do you see that?

Ok. I found what you were talking about and was able to drag and drop the
company info into none.

However, now, after I synched with the Blackberry, I now have two DUPLICATE
contacts for each contact that I used the above removal process.

If I manually open a contact and delete the company info, when I sync it
works fine. The company info is gone. But, if I use your process, when I sync
I get two contacts that are exact duplicates on the Blackberry AND in Outlook
on my cpu.

Since I have 636 contacts, I really don't want to open each one manually.
But doing it the other way is causing a new problem. Help!

That's interesting. Maybe it helps to edit every contact as mentioned, empty
the contacts from BB, and start the sync. once from scratch - maybe it does
not. You might also ask in a forum for BB how to sync with Outlook.

Good idea, except I already tried doing your last suggestion; it didn't work.
I still got two of each contact on both the BB and the CPU.

I will try the BB forum. Thanks for your input. If you hear of this problem
again with a fix, let me know.

Thanks!
