File 00004784.rbf Error on Start-up?

C

Charliec

I'm running WinXP with all the latest updates. Starting today, when I
boot the system or restart the system, I get this error message - that
Windows cannot start program 00004784.rbf, it wants to search the
Internet for the proper program, but can't seem to find anything.

Anyone know what this file is and how to correct or get rid of it?

Otherwise, Windows seems to be running fine.

Thanks
Charliec

Since you didn't post any system changes that you've performed prior to
the first encounter of this problem, that issue is caused by malware.

I found the issue - I had to reinstall Adobe Reader v8 (when
installing the software for my scanner, the installer also install
Adobe Reader v7 - so I had v7 & v8 on my machine - I used Control
Panel/Add/Remove to remove v7 - then v8 did not work properly - I
reinstalled v8 and it is working fine). The file 00004784.rbf was
placed in the MSConfig/Startup group - I disabled it there and the
error is gone and Adobe Reader v8 is working just fine.

Thanks for your reply.

Well, nobody but you knows that scenario unless posted.

Sounds like an incomplete de-/installation anyway.
Thanks for your reply.

You're welcome.
