Figures intermittently fail to print

I have had this problem every since I have been using Word 2000 and
later (now 2003). I have figures in my long document and I have the
options set to include drawing objects (but not to update links since
that would mess up my TOCs). And it does include them sometimes. But
when I print a long document it misses many figures (the placeholder
appears instead). I have tried everything I can think of but this
intermittent problem persists on all printers I can reach. My
workaround is to write out a PDF document and print that, but that
seems like a redundant step.

It isn't clear from your post whether you're saying that certain images
print sometimes but the same ones *don't* print other times, or whether the
same images *never* print but others do, or... In fact, I'm not even sure
what you mean by "figures" and what is linked & what isn't.

If the same images consistently print as placeholders, is it possible that
they are EPS files and you are printing to non-postscript compatible
printers?

If this isn't the cause of the problem please let us know more specifically
what is involved so we have more to work with. Try proofreading your post as
though you had *never* seen the issue involved, hadn't created the file
yourself, & didn't have the facility to be looking over your own shoulder.:)
