Features lost with reinstall on a new hard drive

I've reinstalled on a new hard drive and the features of the Outlook calendar
have changed. I cannot get holidays on the calendar even though I've
followed the directions and am therefore being told that they are there and
they are not in spite of restarts.
Categories are in a different and no longer color colded. I want the color
back.

Did you re-use your old .PST file with your new Outlook installation? If so,
and you simply opened the .PST file instead of importing with it, the
holidays, color coding, etc. should all still be right where it was before.

I don't know what a .PST file is.
I had carefully kept my PDA charged so as not to lose data. When I
initially set it up all was well and I had all data as well as the calendar
intact as is. Then my PDA crashed two days later, would not sync and tech
support told me to reset it. Then I lost everything - including all my email
contacts that were on Outlook. I just miss the old format of the calendar.
The address book I'm working on bit by bit.

Thanks for your help.

The .PST file is where Outlook stores all your data -- contacts,
appointments, e-mail, tasks, etc. Do you still have access to your old hard
drive, and if so, can you find the original .PST file on it? You may have to
enable searching within hidden folders to find .PST files.
