Faxing out on ADSL without a dialup "voice" modem, is it possible?

My question is in the subject line, It seems I need my voice modem to
fax and to act "once again" as my answer machine when I thought I could
dispense with it once I got ADSL. I would really rather get rid of it
as I can always get an ordinary dedicated answer machine, except it
seems I am also unable to use my WinFax Pro to fax without having a
voice modem. My ISP PlusNet does support receiving faxes, converting to
email but I get that from a company called Yac who are great. However,
it in "sending" faxes that I have the problem as ADSL it seems does not
support faxing.
Surely there must be a way around this yes, no?
I notice on the web there are email to fax programmes, some of them
free, but I have not "got my head around them" yet, can anyone come up
with a way to use the Internet to "send" faxes without a voice modem.

Isn't faxing and answering machine capability a telephony service. Of course
it will not work if you are not connected to a phone line with your modem!

You can subscribe to one of the internet fax services. They are on a
subscription basis. But, you are always allowing others to be able to read
your faxes before "they" resend them across a normal phone line for you.

DSL are not real modems! The DSL modem does not convert the signal between
analog/digital because it uses the digital signal directly. The DSL unit is
a DSL terminal which "hooks up" to a DSLAM connection at the telco local
central office. It just so happens that the DSL signal "piggy-backs" across
the normal analog voice telephone line. That is why you get filters with a
self install kit.
