how re-enable voice/data modem

The FAX modem in my XP Pro box is on a 2nd line, and it's
used only to receive FAXes. But it "rings" through the speakers
when it receives a call - an intrusion if I'm on the primary line
talking on the phone. So I disabled the modem in "Phone and
Modem Options" in the control Panel in an effort to silence the
ringer. But now, it's status in the "Attached to" column of the
Modems tab in "Phone and Modem Options" is "Not functional".
The modem is an internal U.S. Robotics 56K Voice and Data
modem.
How can I re-enable the modem?
How can I silence its ring tone?

You can only add or remove modems from "Phone and Modem Properties", you
can't disable them. You can disable the modem from Device Manager. Is it
enabled there?

Thanks! Yes, to re-enable the modem:
rt-clk MyComputer/Manage/DeviceManager/Modems/
U.S. Robotics 56K Voics INT PnP/General tab/Device Usage

Then, to silence the ring tone when a FAX arrives:
Start/Settings/ControlPanel/Printers and Faxes/Fax/Properties/
Tracking tab/Configure Sound Settings button/uncheck
"Play a sound when the line rings"

It's been so long since I did anything with the phone modem
that it was all new to me. Thanks for your reply.
