I wish my question "Where exactly do I look to the firewall?" at the start
of the thread was answered to similar length - we would have avoided
confusion 15 messages ago.
It's up to a respondent to ask necessary questions, especially from an
obviously ignorant in the subject person like miself. Actually it was you
who jumped to changing NIC before properly exploring the firewall idea.
As I said, you helped me and all your remarks were informative, even those
which did not directly lead to the solution.
There was no need to round up the useful thread with grumbling.
Regarding "I appreciate you taking the time to post the conclusion" -
nothing to appreciate, really.
It's a basic obligation of every reasnable person to provide a feedback to
