Failure to open IE from links

C

Clamorous

I have this problem on my home computer as well as the computer at
work.
Home: XP Media Center 2005 SP2, Office 2003, IE7
Work: XP Pro SP2, Office 2003, IE6

While reading e-mail using Outlook, or from a Word document, I click
on a Web link:
1) If I have IE opened, I'll either get a new tab (IE7) or a new IE6
Window with that Web page opened.
2) If I don't have IE opened, about about 20 seconds I get a window
(similar to Windows Explorer) asking where the browser executable is
located. If I close that window and start IE, then click the link
again, I get the results as in #1 above.

Any ideas?
Thank you.

Hello Clamorous,

You could try re-associating the URL (internet shortcut) file type.
You can download the fix here:

Claymore,

Thank you. This did work on the PC at work, I'll now try this over the
weekend with my home PC.

Thank you for your quick and accurate assistance.
Joe
