Failure to display parts of page

Hi
When viewing web pages, certain icons no longer respond
when clicked to open another page, but other adjacent
icons are active and work correctly. For example, on Ebay,
certain boxes which should display selections appear
empty. I have checked these pages on two other PCs and the
pages are working correctly so the problem lies within my
PC. When I click on the 'about' button IE locks up and
will no longer respond. I have upgraded to IE6 but this
did not correct anything. I am running Win98.
Also, when viewing files in explorer, a thumbnail view and
file details are no longer displayed. I have reset the
explorer view settings but no change. Any ideas. This all
happened after a virus checker was installed.
Thanks

Many thanks for your advice Henri. I'll check it out and
see if it fixes the problem.

Had the same exact problem happen at the same exact time
(date/time of your posting). We uninstalled Norton and
installed McAfee before the problem occurred. We
uninstalled Norton through the Add/Remove Programs
feature in Setup/Control Panel. This needs to be done by
using the original software (CD or disk), not the
Add/Remove Programs feature. We noticed the Norton was
still in the registry and did not uninstall properly.
Uninstall the new antivirus program and then uninstall
the old antivirus program properly (with the software).
This should fix the problem.
