Failed Update

Outlook Junk Email Filter KB906173 has failed to install regardless of what I
attempt to do, including turning off Windows Firewall; several attempts to
reinstall. I downloaded it via automatic downloads together with SP2 for
Office & did not see what happend. Initally SP2 failed to install also; but
seems to have done so now, after I downloaded it from the site myself.
The yellow shield returns each time I restart my PC. I don't seem to have
received any further updates since, as this one keeps coming up but fails to
install.
Can any body offer any suggestions please?

I forgot to mention the error message "this update cannot be applied" appears
when I do a manual download and attempt to install KB906173. I am running
Office 2003 + SP2 on Windows XP Home.

Had the same install fails on Office SP2 and Junkmail filter. Did the
following (copied from Setup.chm help file). Immediate positive
results-- installs took right away, even without restart.

This error may occur when you are installing, repairing, or
uninstalling Office and one of the following conditions are true:

The Office Source Engine (ose.exe) failed to start either because
it's stopped or disabled.
The Office Source Engine no longer exists.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

If the Office Source Engine has been stopped or disabled

Log on with Administrative privileges.
Right click on My Computer.
Select Manager.
Click on Services and Applications.
Select Services.
Find Office Source Engine and enable the Service. (change to
"automatic" and make sure to start)

Hope this helps. It's solved update problems that have been plaguing me
for months.
