I am running XP Professional SP3.
Have a weird problem which has been bugging me for a while:
After my machine has been turned on for a while, the "Fade effect"
suddenly turns itself on and I have to go into Display Properties ->
Appearance -> Effects and turn it off again. Note that the
"Use the following transition effect ..." box has a greyed checkmark
in it rather than a black/white one, which suggests to me that
something is temporarily overriding my off setting rather than
setting it permanently.
My Performance Options -> Visual Effects is set to "Adjust for
best performance" and I have checked (I think) all the related
Registry entries for anything out of the ordinary.
I have pruned the process list with AutoRuns.exe (SysInternals)
and cannot think of anything in the process list that could behave
this way.
No viruses either, as far as I am aware of.
Very, very annoying. Any ideas?
TIA,
Joergen Bech
