F-Prot

As recommended by the website I upgraded from version 3 to version 6
and there doesn't seem to be as much flexibility with this new
version.

In particular I would like to update secondary machines from the local
LAN rather than all from the F-Prot site and also get the manual scan
items to report only (ie. stop quarantining files). Either that or
suppress the manual scan menu entirely to stop someone running with
those settings.

I have to say I'm disappointed with this dumbing down for thicko
users. :(

Provided you are using a corporate version of F-Prot, you can install "LAN
Update" packages on the secondary machines, see

http://www.f-prot.com/support/windows/fpwin_faq/424.html

for more information.

I prefer "report only" too, but I haven't found a way to do that. I set up
an "Advanced scan" for that purpose, but of course this does not prevent
the normal manual scan to be run.

i don't normally post 'me too's, but this is a context where (if anyone
from fsi is reading this) it might help... report only for manual scans
please...

anyone else want to see this ability return?

I agree.
And, with the installer, you cannot choose another folder or partition
to install on.
They give you a DOS procedure that is so far out of date it`s makes you
wonder how many still use DOS very much.

There is a place to check for report only or delete or quarantine. Can`t
remember now.

Yes.
There is a place to indicate that you do or do not want all files listed
in the report, I checked no but still get a list of what was scanned and
what could not be scanned.

no, no... i'm talking about what the scanner does when it finds malware,
i want it to report only rather than delete/disinfect/quarantine...
there is no way to do that for a normal scan in the new version... there
was in 3.x but not in 6... you can only do it for advanced scans...

Those settings apply only to "Advanced scan", not "Manual scan".
