Externe harddisk

I have a extern harddisk usb how can i make him close down when I shut down
the computer now I have to swiths him to close, I am using Windows Vista Home
Premium

An external hard drive, with it's own power source, is always going to have
to be shut down by turning off the switch on the drive case.
