External Iomega Zip.. SLOW

Can someone tell me if an external Zip is slower than an
internal one.. HAve External Iomega 250 on new computer
and it is WAY SLOWER than the old 100 internal one on my
old computer.. Is this the nature of the beast, or is
there something wrong with Zip?? It is taking about 8-10
min to transfer something to that drive now when it took
only a minuute..2tops with old one.
Thanks for any input you can give.

Moreover, "... The Zip 250MB Drive will read and write to a Zip 250MB
disk at a faster rate than a Zip 100MB disk."

If it is a parallel drive there is a patch for slow transfer rates for
Iomega parallel port drives on the Iomega website.
