external hard disk

hello

since reinstalling windows xp home, with sp2 on my dell inspiron 8600
the icon in the taskbar saying "now you can remove you external hard
disk in all security", find the freecom hard disk but always gives me
the warning that one should not remove it at this point,
Anybody knows what I should do to make it safe ?

Double-click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the Notification
Area of the Taskbar. Highlight the device and press "Stop" and "OK".
When the entry has been deleted you can remove the disk safely.
