external enclosure connections

I'm about to buy an external enclosure for a hard drive. I can't decide if I
want one that connects via USB only or USB/Firewire combo. I will have the
enclosure simultaneoulsy connected to 2 machines. One machine is older and
supports USB 1.1 and Firwire. The other machine supports only USB 2.0. Would
I be able to keep the enclosure connected to both machines at the same time
if one is connected with USB 2.0 and the other with Firewire?

I don't think you can connect the drive to two machines at
once, but you should get the Firewire/USB 2.0 since USB 1.1
would be very slow.
