Exporting Windows Mail Messages/Folders to Outlook 2003

Have new PC with Vista and have been using Windows Mail (previously imported
Outlook Express files from previous PC). Would now like to export message
and addresses to Outlook 2003. When selecting Export from WM, I get error
message "The export could not be performed. An error occurred while
initializing MAPI." I then tried importing from Outlook and got an error
message "Mail folder could not be opened. If another application is using
the file, please close it and try again." I logged off and tried again, but
received the same error message. How can I address these messages? I would
prefer exporting from WM to preserve the e-mail dates. Thanks.

Does Outlook function correctly on its own already?
Have you already applied Service Pack 3 to Outlook 2003?
If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable/uninstall
this integration and try again.

If it still doesn't work, you might want to install Windows Live Mail
instead, migrate your Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail and then try the
export options in Windows Live Mail to get it into Outlook.
