Exporting to Outlook - Error

S

Suzanne

I only turned on Windows Mail to use the News Reader, but it downloaded my
email as well (when I set it up, I checked the box that said Do not download
messages now).
I want to export the emails that it downloaded, so that I can get them into
Outlook 2007.
When I use the Export wizard, I get this error message:
An error occurred while initializing MAPI.
How do I get these messages out of Windows Mail? I don't want to use it for
email at all.

If you don't have Outlook installed on the same machine, you're unlikely to
be able to use the MAPI module needed to put them in the format normally
used by Outlook. Check what other formats Outlook can import, and see
if you can export the messages in one of those formats instead. Note that
some of those formats use so many files that you should create an initially
empty directory to export them to.

If you don't want Windows Mail to download mail, I'm not sure there is
any way to do this except removing your email account under Windows
Mail, so it will not know where to download it from.

I do have Outlook 2007 installed on my computer. That is what I use for my
email. I don't understand where the MAPI error is coming from or how I can
fix it.

I don't have Outlook, so I can't test this, but have you tried exporting the
messages both with Outlook running and with Outlook not running?

I just tried that, but I got the same error both times.

Have you tried importing the Windows Mail messages using Outlook 2007
instead?

File menu>Import and Export>Import Internet Mail and Addresses>Outlook
Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x or windows Mail or does this give the Mapi error
too?

This worked! I guess I didn't think Outlook could pull those messages in
unless Windows Mail did something to make it possible, put them in a file or
something.

All my mail is in Outlook, and I disabled the account in Windows Mail, so it
won't try to download new email anymore.

Thanks!
