Explorer wont display preview of picture files

With Windows 2000, if I had Windows Explorer open with a
list of files (dislayed in detail view), and a .jpg, .gif
or .bmp file was highlited, a miniature view of the
contents of the file would display to the left of the
list of files. The folders pane was to the left of that.

I cannot get XP Windows Explorer to display the list of
files with photo preview plus the folders pane on the
left side.

I've tried various settings and the only thing similar to
what I want requires closing the folders pane, which I
don't want to do. I want the folders pane on the left,
and the list of files on the right with the file
preview. Is this possible?

NO. If you want to see the preview of a .jpg, etcetera in
the left-hand pane with Details View you have to display
Common Tasks and close Folders.

You can't have your Kate and Edith to.)

Hi,

It has been replaced with Common Tasks. To invoke, go to Windows
Explorer/Tools/
General/Show common tasks in folders.
