explorer problems

Hi,
I have a fairly new computer with XP Pro and everything has been going OK
for the last few months but recently I have been having an intermitant start
up problem. The computer starts up OK and the desktop picture appears but
all my icons and system tray do not appear. If I Ctr/Alt/Delete and try to
'run' explorer.exe nothing happens. I have to restart the computer and then
everything is OK again. Sometimes they appear without any problems sometimes
not at all and other times it seems to take an age with the CPU at 0% - 5%
and all of a sudden all the icons appear.
Any thoughts about what it might be most appreciated.

What is the malware status of the computer?

After you know the computer is clean, if the problems still persist try some

hanging up at login.
