Explorer problems, default web search and right click bar

Hi. I've been having problems with scumware lately. Some
of my favorite sites have recently had ads that snuck some
scumware by, and I must have accidentally downloaded some
of it when I went.

I've tried my best to rid myself of it, but I'm having
problems in two areas still.

The first, is the default web search device. When a
website is not found, it will take me to a site with many
popups. So how do I change this? (What I mean by web
search device (I don't know if that is the technical term,
but it sounds good...), I mean... if I type say, yahooc.om
on accident, the website I arrive at will have many pop
ups.)

Second, when I right click anywhere in the explorer
browser (say I highlight text then right-click to copy
it), there is a "Websearch" link right above my
properties. It was never there before. When I click on
it, it's obviously apart of the scumware I accidentally
downloaded, because it has all sorts of popups and
banners. So how do I fix this? Is there a way to
customize your right-click-bar?

Thanks a lot!

Start-Run-Regedit.
Navigate to this key and see if your offending item is there in the
list of sub-keys. If so, then remove it.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt

The slightly less dangerous way (for those who aren't comfortable in the
Registry), is to download the free version of AdAware from
www.lavasoftusa.com. Make sure you run the web update after install to get
all of the latest spy/ad/mal-ware signatures.

AdAware does a fine job of removing even the nastiest little ba$tards from
your system - including those extremely sticky 3rd party IE toolbars. It
came highly recommended from a number of sources, AND I ran another
anti-spyware prog after installing it, just to make sure IT wasn't spying on
me. It wasn't.

HTH,
Scott
