Explorer Pages Not Responding at All

I just bought, downloaded and installed the latest
version of Norton Antivirus within the last week. I have
done all the latest updates. Right about the same time I
downloaded all of the latest Windows updates. After this
I found that I can't get internet Explorer to work, I get
the default can't connect screen.

I have Road Runner high speed online service. I called
them to try and trouble shoot the problem. We did some
tests on my system and I explained this whole situation.
I went through DOS and pinged yahoo.com and got a
positive return. I can tell that I have a good
connection, but can't get Explorer to work. Is there a
firewall problem between XP and the latest antivirus
software or what could my problem be? The Road Runner guy
thought there might be some kind of conflict with the new
antivirus and possibly the latest Windows updates.

I also did a defrag recently, not sure if that would have
any effect. I also deleted some files that the new
Noroton Antivirus caught, again, not sure if that might
have an effect.

For what it's worth, anything named Norton can and will cause system
problems by reporting errors that don't exist, and cause general weird
problems.

If you upgraded to SP2, take your time before you update next time until all
the bugs are worked out. SP2 is causing all types of problems... many posts
here saying the trouble with IE started after they installed SP2. There's a
very long list on M$ site of programs and apps that won't work after SP2 is
installed. The best thing I think you can do is uninstall it and wait for
all the fixes.
