Explorer.exe using alot of virtual memory

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP SP2 with 1gig of RAM.

I use my machine alot, often browsing through a large number of images and
videos. Of late, I have noticed that my computer seems sluggish. I tracked
this down to explorer.exe using hundreds of megabytes of virtual memory in
Task Manager (Select Columns -> Virtual Memory Size).

When I boot my machine, it is usually around 20-30mb of virtual memory. If
I use my machine for surfing, word processing or chatting, it remains more or
less at that level. But if I start to browse videos and pictures for a few
hours, the number keeps climbing and climbing. I've seen explorer.exe use
upto 1.5gigabytes of virtual memory before the system becomes unusable.
The only solution I've found is to kill the process and start a new one.

I was wondering if there was a better solution, or if this was indicative of
a larger problem.

Hi,

Thanks for the response, but I know what virtual memory is - I just don't
understand why explorer.exe is using so much of it.
