explorer.exe and ... uses 50% of CPU and stop working

I have this problem:
explorer.exe and some other processes (never the same time) use 50% of my
CPU and almost everything stops working. If i terminate and restart them from
task manager sometimes they make the same (so i re terminate and restart etc
until it works).I am 99.999% that it isnt a virus (since i run AVG pro +
firewall and i dont visit suspicious sites)

I have:
CPU:p4 3.4 HyperThreading
GPU:Geforce 6600GT 128MB
RAM:2x512 DRR2
HDD:the prime Win is 80GB at 7200RPMs

I also have a Microsoft Elite Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard and a cooling device
that keeps the temp under 50C

Hey Chris, I am sure it is a virus. I have ALL the antivirus stuff you can
think of, up to date. I also pretty much know what I am doing, and I STILL
got a virus. I am having the same problem you descibed, and even tho my virus
programs all said the virus was removed, I think it was not removed. This
same problem we are having never happened to me before I got the bug. Now
supposedly the bug is gone, but I still have the problem. Therefore I am 99%
sure my 99% CPU explorer.exe problem is from a virus. I am waiting here
anxiously to see if any experts here offer me advice.

Hi all,
Sometimes a virus can create a protected file (s) on the system the
anti-virus can't completly get rid of and still on your system.
When you start or Reboot your computer the file excuted and the processor is
runing, if you will not know what processor the virus is runing you can't
disable it to give the Av the chance to get ride or quarantine the file.
The virus may created keys in the registry and an admin account on the
system infected so it has it's grip on the computer!.
Download the HijackThis and send the report to the Aumha or one of the
forums support/Analysis the log file:
http://www.aumha.org/free.htm for HijackThis.
HTH.
Please let us know your findings.

Nass,

Thanks for response. I have been fooling around with HijackThis! and still
no luck. I have spotted the offending .dll files and they refuse to be
deleted. I even did the option 'enter filename to be deleted upon reboot'. I
have noticed if I unplug my broadband and the computer boots up first, and
plug in the modem later, all seems to be ok. I thinik the computer is still
slower, but at least it works. However, if I boot up as normal with the
broadband still plugged in, the computer freezes and I have to reboot. I have
rebooted my pc about 100 times or more in the past 4 days. I am so stressed
about this. I have had so many people look at my HJ log with no help. Do you
know who else I could post my log to? It seems it takes 1-2 days to get help.
I post something, do something, then wait a day. I am so upset. I will use
PayPal to pay someone if they can help me. I am very desperate. I want my pc
to work like before, but nothing will work.

Also, that link you posted was dead. Is there a forum here I can post my log
to? Thank you very much for the reply, I appreciate it. In all my 15 years of
computer usage, I have never been so upset as I am now.

Also, did someone delete my thread? I posted one myself but cant seem to
find it now.

Hi Skip,
Sorry about the link, you should be patient and wait for the expert opinion
on this, here are some forums to send your HjThis log file to and they will
examin it and tell the right procedure to get your computer back on track.
Deleting will not help sometimes as some core file may corrupt by the
Infection and need to be repaired first and get rid of the empty Key/Entires
made by the Virus.
I can say do a system restore to an earlier date but if the infection was
sever then the Restore point may be also corrupted!.
So here are the links to send your log to and best of luck. (Never give up,
it's just a peice of metal (code,values...) following orders!! :)

Time to reload windows from scratch. Some crap/virus/spyware can not be
removed. At least not with available tools.

Do you live by a university neer by? Take your system to the university
book store or computer clean up people. Kids catch this crap all the time.
