Explorer crashing

I have started to have some trouble with getting a menu to come up when
right clicking on a file. Windows Explorer will crash completely and I
am left looking at the desktop. Strangely this only seems to happen in
a few directories on C: drive, notably "documents and settings". I have
searched google for help but this isn't the 'lockup' problem others have
described. The event viewer states that 'explorer unexpectedly stopped
and was restarted". Any help is appreciated including info on the
keystrokes needed to bring up the menu in lieu of right clicking.

A quick addendum to my previous message. The event viewer actually
says: "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted"

One other thing, some icons in the tray also go away although the
programs are still running. If I log off and then back on everything
LOOKS like it is back the way it was. Again, any help is appreciated.

I think we had an earlier report of this same problem, and no resolution
came about. You should try rolling back your system files using System
Restore. Choose a date preceding the start of the problem. Go to Help &
Support, type in "system restore" and choose the link that mentions the
Wizard. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, as I rarely tried to do a right
click in those directories, I have no idea when the problem could have
started and therefore don't know when to roll back to. I have
discovered that the context menu works fine using the 'menu' key so I
can manage working like that for the rare occasion I need to work in
those directories. If it starts happening to every directory, that will
be a bigger problem.
