Explanation of "Inherit from... " and "Replace permissions..."

Hi- I have yet to find a clear explanation and example of the following
Advanced Security checkbox:

"Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here
that apply to child objects."

I am guessing at what it does, but need confirmation.

Thank you for considering my request and a big, double thank-you if you can
even point me to an answer.

1. Open XP's "Help and Support Center".
2. In the Search box type: Replace permission , and hit enter.
3. Click on "Set, view, change, or remove special permissions...."

Hi Carey- Thank you for your help. Your suggestion leads me to a help page
that says:

If you select the Replace permission entries on all child objects with
entries shown here that apply to child objects. Include these with entries
explicitly defined here check box, then all subfolders and files will have
all their permission entries reset to be identical with the parent object.
Once you have clicked Apply or OK, you cannot undo this operation by clearing
the check box.

In this paragraph it refers to a checkbox that says,:

"Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here
that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined
here check box."

I have not seen that check box. I have seen the following 2 checkboxes in
the Permissions for Advanced Security Settings:

Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects.
Include these with entries explicitly defined here

and

Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here
that apply to child objects."

Is the help file incorrect? Thanks again for your help.
