Experiencing High CPU usage when Outlook open But idle ???

I am posting for the first time I hope I am doing it right……if not please
advise

I am running Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-3 (9.0.0.6627)
I recently had to return my PC to (Dell) factory setting following loss of
system files Norton reported this was due to a virus. Which they delt with
via a remote connection after which they avised that some System file were
unavailable and I should reinstall XP Pro. via Dell's Return to Factory
setting
After retuning my PC to Factory setting and reinstalling all programs all
seem to be operating OK till I had a Blue Screen error this has occurred
twice since, retuning my PC to Factory setting, on both occasions I think
Outlook was open but idle.

As I open Outlook, Windows Task Manager show CPU usage peaking to about 13%
for a brief second then stabilizes at 1-2% after about a minute or so it
shoot up to between 50 to 60%……Can Anyone help?

You updated both Win & Office after the recovery?
Presumably you have Norton integrated with Outlook, this can cause problems
& is unnecessary as the AV real time scanner will detect anything that tries
to install.
Unfortunately simply turning off any integration, in Norton, rarely helps,
you have to completely uninstall Norton, use the cleanup tool available on
their site for removing all vestiges, then reboot prior to installing Norton
without the outlook integration.
BTW What version of Norton, older versions were intensely intrusive & memory
hungry

after the recovery-- & I am using N360v2.5.0.5

I will now try what you have suggested I will post the results when I am done.
