Experience with Verizon DSL

I am thinking of changing from my present ISP (widomaker.com) with DSL
service through Verizon to Verizon as my ISP with DSL of course.

I wonder if any of you who use Verizon as an ISP would be willing to share
their experiences. I've been on the phone with Verizon Tech Support and
found them willing to answer my questions even though I am not a
subscriber. The only problem I had was understanding their accent but I've
grown accustomed to that in this world. I suspect they have the same
problem with my red neck talk.

Thank you.

I can't help you with a personal answer because I don't use Verizon, but
here is a site with many reviews/forums which should be helpful:

I had a negative experience with Verizon's DSL service at my job.

During my first week of work one of our trailers at a construction site said
their DSL went out at the site after they switched computers (their old
computer died).

After a scratching my head for a bit I called Verizon's customer service.
After waiting on hold for a bit , which is normal for most help lines, it was
figured out that the IP adress was being held on Verizons side in relation to
the MAC the of the old computer. This was after SEVERAL calls and them
telling me to reset the DSL router. They ended up wanting me to get the old
laptop, connect it to the DSL line, and then release the IP adress. However,
this was not possible since the computer was gone. The tech said they could
not release the IP from their side and pretty much told me it was my
problem/fault. I ended up calling back and getting a diffrent person that
escilated my ticket and got an admin to release the old IP - which still took
a day and a half to happen.

However, this might just be in isolated case. Take it with a grain of salt.

Hmmm! That makes me wonder if, for whatever reason, you wanted to just
replace the computer connected to the DSL line with another one? Sounds
like that is more or less what happened in you situation. I hope that was
just an isolated instance for such a replacement would be a relatively
common thing with me.

Thanks for your experience.

That incident was a year ago. We now have a router hooked up to the
connection and I have not been notified of any more problems at the location.

Personally I perfer Cable over DSL because Cable TENDS to be faster.
Sometimes access to cable and price are factors in choosing which one to go
with.

Agian, I think my incident was just an isolated case.

Hi

I have Verizon residential DSL for 4 years.

I can attest to the core service only, since I am not expecting Verizon to
do any thing past the Modem. I do it my self.

The contract Speed is calling for 3Mb/sec. I get about 3.3Mb/sec.

During this 4 years the service was down one or two times for short period
of time for maintenance (Verizon informed me ahead that that might happen).

Otherwise it is just “chugging” as it should.

May be this can Help too.

Thank you. I, too, will not expect Verizon to do anything but provided me
with a high speed connection. I've had DSL (Verizon) through my current ISP
and the only time I can recall it being down is when Isabelle blew through
here a year or two ago. Of course, so was everything else for a few days.

I understand they do have some sort of Spam blocking capability that will
prevent unwanted email from getting into your inbox thus eliminating many if
not all of my email message rules. That sounds too good to be true.

Hi
Nah, I would not count on their Spam Blocker. Actually I do not even use
their email server because it is widely known (same to most of other ISPs)
and thus a constant target. I use Gmail (very good inline Spam filter) and
my own personal email on an hosting service. Having a Hosting service for
email with my own domain is a minor cost of $2 a month. Doing so I have my
own email as well as the capacity to give nice email address to other member
of the family.
