Exchange Cache mode use causes Outlook to crash

G

Greg Trapp

All of my Outlook 2003 clients came into work today to
find that Outlook stopped working on Sunday afternoon.
Outlook starts and if they try to send a new e-mail or
wait a few minutes, they get the error: "Microsoft Office
Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to
close."

The info in the workstation event log is: Bucket
63226915, bucket table 1, faulting application
outlook.exe, version 11.0.5510.0, stamp 3f1380f0,
faulting module emsabp32.dll, version 11.0.5510.0, stamp
3f1381c9, debug? 0, fault address 0x00003990.
Event ID 1001.

If I disable Exchange Cache Mode, they work fine. They
have been working fine for 6 months using the cache
mode.

emsabp32.dll is the address book service - I would try removing the address
book service and readding it or deleting the oab files and see if
downloading new ones helps.

Real quick, how would I remove the address book service in Outlook 2003? I
have already tried deleting the oab files. Thanks.

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. Delete it and close and restart Outlook. Repeat these steps
to add it.

Removing and re-adding the Outlook address book service in Outlook 2003 did
not solve the problem. I still can't use the Cache feature in Outlook 2003.
I did remove all of my OAB files last week thinking that they could have been
corrupted. Now when I try and download a detailed Offline Address Book, I
get this error: Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (ox80004005):
'The operation failed.' This is with the cache feature disabled. With the
cache feature enabled, I'm only in Outlook for about 30 seconds before it
crashes.
