Although I used postings here to insert an excell worksheet into my PPT
presentation, and I changed Action Settings to Edit, I cannot change numbers
in the worksheet without opeing the row and column headings. I just want to
be able to change the numbers without all this 'stuff' coming up. Can you
help me please????

How did you insert the worksheet? Is it linked?

Can you pleas clarify what you mean by "opening the row and column
headings"? Also, what exactly is "stuff"? Remember, we can't see what you're
doing there, so you have to be our eyes.

FWIW, I quickly linked to an Excel worksheet by copying 4 columns X 9 rows
of data (columns A-D and rows 46-54, and the header row wasn't showing),
then in PPT Edit|Paste Special, choosing Excel Worksheet Object and clicking
"paste link." I went to Custom Animation task pane, clicked Add Effect,
chose Object Action|Edit. When I run the slide show and click the data,
Excel opens, and I'm able to change data with no problems. I do see the
entire Excel interface when the data opens -- is that your problem?.

In ppt, I used Insert > object > browsed for excel file > OK. After it
pasted, I right-clicked on the "picture" of the pasted cells > Action
Settings > Object Actions > Edit. When I try to single-click ont he numbers
to change them, nothing happens. When I double-click on the item, a partial
of my Excel sheet appears: the header for the columns showing A, B, C... and
for the rows 1, 2, 3... and the scroll arrows at the bottom. I am able to
change the number the sheet does recaluculate properly.
This is what I'm trying to do: During the presentation, I would like to be
able to change numbers quickly without the 'stuff' above appear---I need a
cleaner look, an easy action.
If you would like to remote in with me, I can show you what I am trying to
achieve.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back with you, jacks.

I believe the action setting is doing what it's designed to do, that is,
open Excel so you can edit the data. You shouldn't have to double-click
though -- a single click should be enough.

Sorry, I can't think of anything that would allow you to open just a few
cells and change that data. You might try opening your Excel file, choosing
View|Full Screen, and then saving the file. That will at least open it up
without so many toolbars, although you'll still have the menu and scroll
bars.

Hi Jacks,

When you open your spreadsheet, go to Tools > Options > View. You can
turn off things like 'Row and Column Headings' and 'Sheet Tags'.

Hope that helps,

Michele

Ooooh, good idea! I didn't realize you can do that in Excel. Thanks!
