Excel hangs when opening any spreadsheet

V

Vaughn

Task manager eventually shows it as "Not responding"
Submitting an error report does not return any possible fixes.
In the application event log, the only thing that looks related is a message
about fault bucket 1047709693 and application hang...googling this doesn't
seem to find anything applicable.

The PC has WinXP and Office 2003, both fully updated. I have defragged the
drive. Logging in as myself (with an administrator account) I can open
spreadsheets just fine. Logged in as the user and it fails. Any advice?

Hi Vaughn,
I'm curently experiencing the same issue with two computers at work. Let try
troubleshooting this a little.
One of the the two computershas new RAM installed. Have you installed more
memory recently?
Both have a wireless logitech mouse with updated drivers. Do you?
One thing I noticed is that Java update may be at the cause, because every
time I Task Manager and kill Java it frees up the computer again. Which I
know is not related to Excel. Probably a running process in the background
using Java might be monopolizing RAM. Let me know what you have running. TY.
