excel 2000 drawing icons are graied out "dont work"

Help,

While working on an excel spreadsheet something is active
on the table top that will not allow the use of
the "Drawing icons" insert "Text Box". All drawing icons
are gray'd out. The only thing im doing is data entry
there are no active macros or hyperlinks running.

This behaviour would be caused by having the worksheet protected.

Tools>Protection "Unprotect worksheet".

You may have to provide a password.
