EWF tatics

Curious,
We discussed some of this before....But not this particular item...

I have 256 meg CF which is protected by EWF RAM, and my system only has 256
meg ram. Actual used space is 130 megs.

Would it be better as a safeguard, to partition the CF for an example to 140
megs or so on the first partition, then the second partition be the
reminder, regardless if I even used the 2nd partition or not?
Only the first partition would be protected with a Ram Overlay EWF.

Wouldn't this insure that the ram never gets full from the ram overlay?

Richard,

In general it may be a good idea to separate System and, say, Data partitions and protect only the system one with EWF.

However, ther are possible some drawbacks:
- Since you use CF, the blocks on Data partition may wear out faster if not protected.
- There may be not enough space on the System partition if some files are added or registry hives would grow much.
- You have to have CF marked as fixed to make partitions.

What is the level of user interaction (access to) with the storage on your device?
If user can't do much (copy files, play with EWF manager, etc.), you can configure EWF so that does not consume much RAM anyway.
Then you don't need to partition CF.

Richard,

To add to this,
You must ensure always that your OS FS does not get out of space for at least of reasons of storing the registry that Konstantin
mentioned.
