EWF not freeing up RAM

Hi
I am using the EWF set for a RAM overlay. All seemed to
work fine. I copied files on but after a fresh boot the
files where gone. I also saw an increase in the RAM used
as I copied on files. But when I deleted the same files I
had copied on and cleared the recycle bin I did not see
my RAM space free up. When I reboot the RAM space is
cleared. Did I forget a component or setting?

Prior to doing this project I did an NT embedded project.
NTe's EWF (if you could call it that) freed up the RAM. I
do not see why XP should not. I understand your points,
but fragmenting RAM was never an issue with NTe and best
I can tell XP is much better at not fragmenting storage
then NT ever was. Also, if you store something on your
HDD and then delete it and clear the recycle bin the HDD
space comes back. It does not take a reboot.
This does not quite make sense.

You might be making some wrong assumptions about the way that EWF works. It
would not surprise me if EWF allocated RAM as it needs it, but does not
necessarily give it back. You could get into
fragmentation and other similar

Hello Mark,

Could you point to some documentation that states this? Or link an old
message from Microsoft?
I'm finding it very difficult to attain solid answers regarding EWF.

Thanks,
