Event Viewer Console

I would like to permanently remove the 'Description' column from the
Event Viewer console, so that when I open Event Viewer, it's not there
at all. Is there a registry hack that will accomplish this measure???

Thanks, in advance, for any assistance with this.

No hack, but here is a simpler way to accomplish what you want. Customize
the Event Viewer.

Open the Event Viewer and select "Customize..." from the "View" menu. Now
uncheck the items you do not need or want.

William, I mistakenly said "Event Viewer". I was tired and not thinking
straight. What I meant was the Services console. I sometime open and
close it several times a day, and it is annoying to have to rearrange
everything to my liking every time. It would be nice to have the
Services console open up without the Description column. I hope this
makes more sense, and that perhaps you have a solution.

Thank you

Will this work? Open Services and then from the toolbar open the "View" menu
to select "Add/Remove Columns". Select "Description" and then click the
Remove button.

Yes that works, but only until I close the console. If I reopen the
console 20 seconds later, I have to do it all over again. I'm sure there
is a registry fix to disable the Description column more permanently.

I should have thought of this before, create a custom view snap-in for
Services using MMC that you can save to a folder or desktop.

Creating the custom snap-in.
Type the following in the Run dialog box:

mmc

A console window should appear. Go to the "File" menu to select "Add/Remove
Snap In". Click the "Add" button. Locate and highlight "Services". Click the
"Add" button then finish. Click the "Close" button and then the "OK" button.
Highlight "Services" in the left hand side window. Go to the "View" menu to
choose "Add/Remove Columns. Remove the Description column. Click OK. Now go
to the "File" menu to select "Save As". Save the new console on your
Desktop.

Now you can open a saved view of the Services snap-in without the
Description column by double-clicking the saved console on your desktop.
