Event Log Error regarding startup issue previously posted

Dear everyone,

I had previously posted a thread regarding an XP startup issue where the
program loads up to a certain point and then hangs indefinitely once the
wallpaper has loaded. I have reviewed the event log and am posting the error
which had occurred(the issue resurfaced again today and i cross-referenced
this with the date I made the previous post and the same error occurred).
The event log shows the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7026
Date: 30/10/2006
Time: 7:07:10 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DAVID-8BKZCID9T
Description:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
i8042prt

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Any assistance with remedying this nuisance would be appreciated. Thanks
again in advance.

The i8042prt is the default driver (i8042prt.sys) for the PS/2 port (mouse / keyboard port) on the system.

The only time I have seen this particular error message and behavior was when the user had a USB keyboard and USB mouse. The BIOS settings on the system had the PS/2 port enabled and this was causing a random conflict when booting or when coming out of Stanby Mode.

The solution is to access the BIOS settings and disable the PS/2 port. Only do this if you have a USB keyboard and mouse installed.

When you reboot the system, you should see a message about accessing Setup that shows which key to press for access. In the BIOS screen, there will be instructions, usually at the bottom of the screen on navigating the different settings.
