Event ID: 7023 in XP/HID - system cannot find the file specified. (error 2)

it's long time I do have this problem (XP Professional).

I do have to admit it was originally my fault :-( in the sense I had some
freeze problems with a new mouse during his setup everytime XP was try to
load HID drivers. So I manually delete some HID files to have the mouse
work :-((( And now I can't remember those files :-(((

Then, after that, I changed hardware many times and never reinstalled, I
installed updates and SP and always had this error.

Here the exact error log from Event Viewer:

Event ID: 7023

The Human Interface Device Access service terminated with the following
error:
The system cannot find the file specified. (error 2)

Hidserv.dll
mouhid,sys
mouclass.sys

are perfectly in place!!!

Now it is important to note I do have a "cannot find FILE specified" error
and not the more common "the specified MODULE could not be found" (error
126).

In my case, how can I track which file is missing? How can I fix this
annoying problem?

I've seen this exact same issue. If I understand the functionality,
HID Input Service allows Mice, Keyboards, KVM's to use a
"Hotkey" sequence to perform certain functions. It's not so
much an XP service as an interface to 3rd party drivers and
control applications. In your case it may be the drivers or applet
of some HID based device.
On the machine I worked on with this issue, we ended up taking
out the devices listed in Device Manager's "Human Interface
Devices" category. We then uninstalled the support applications
and then re-enumerating and installing them one at a time.
An alternate solution (Work Around) is just to disable the HID
Input Device service, if you can live without any Hotkey support.
Either way, I wouldn't do anything drastic without having a
verified image of your System Partition.
I have noticed that after SP2, that the HID device category
seems to have more entries than with SP1(a). When I was using
Sp1, my own system's HID category only contained an entry
for my Logitech MX-700 Wireless mouse. Using SP2, I now
have 4 additional entries titled simply " USB Human Interface
Device". Apparently, SP2 changes or modifies how some USB
devices are enumerated.

Control Panel just show one HID device: my USB APC backup and it seems to
work correctly.

I just do have that APC :-((( It's strange my Microsoft wireless keyboard
and mouse do not appear there. I'm not sure if they need to be there too,
I'm sure they are correctly installed.

Yes, ok, I don't want to do that. I want to solve the issue.

Not here, maybe it's related with my problem.

The point I think is in my last question: if the system say it can't find
a file, how can I find reference to the file the system say it can find?
